African Travel has recently chosen the Amy Biehl Foundation to be the recipient of its latest charitable grant. The Amy Biehl Foundation is a non-profit organization in Cape Town, South Africa whose programs are designed to develop and empower 5-18 year old youth in the impoverished townships, contribute to community building efforts, give children hope and a brighter future, and alleviate HIV Aids, poverty, gangs, violence and crime. This is achieved by providing educational and cultural activities that offer students healthy alternatives to idleness and all the negative influences in the townships and unlocks their creative talent with the aim of giving them opportunities to become future leaders, entrepreneurs and well rounded citizens in a global society. African Travel is proud to support this very worthy organization and offers opportunities for clients to volunteer on site.
Our support of the African way of life goes beyond introducing thousands of visitors to the continent. By developing and promoting tourism to Africa, African Travel has been able to positively impact environmental awareness, wildlife conservation and cultural preservation. African Travel supports two charitable associations that are dear to our hearts: The Cheetah Outreach, South Africa (member of The Cheetah Alliance) and the Maasai Wilderness Conservation Fund, Kenya. These charities champion causes that are not only noble but necessary.
We invite you to join us in one of three ways. (1) When you travel with African Travel, a portion of the profits goes towards these causes. (2) If you make payment for your travels by cash or check, African Travel will, in turn, donate an additional 1% of the total trip cost to the traveler’s choice of either charity. (3) Make a direct charitable contribution as outlined below.
Can you imagine a world without cheetahs, elephants, giraffes or lions? What a loss it would be if the richness of the Maasai culture was delegated to something that our children read about in their history books rather than experienced first hand? How is it possible that when shown pictures of the indigenous wildlife, local African children are unable to identify them? Through education and giving local people the opportunity for personal investment we can effect change.

Africa evokes a stirring in the soup. With this emotion our staff of Safari Specialists endeavored to personally touch an African child’s life. Four years ago we conceived the idea of having a disadvantaged child “walk a mile in our shoes”, literally. The response we received to our request from the local community for donations of new and gently worn shoes was overwhelming and happily received on the African side. The new challenge was finding a way to keep this stream of shoes flowing. We decided to invite you, our guest to Africa, to participate in the Safari with a Sole project by taking a new pair of shoes, which African Travel will provide, with you on your upcoming trip. Upon arrival simply give the shoes to one of our local African staff and they will be delivered. Since shoes sent from the U.S. can get lost in the mail or customs process, or even stolen, “Safari with a Sole” offers the peace of mind that the children you have chosen to help will directly benefit and have their new shoes readily available.
